Willner, Sarah Willner

was swept away by Balinese music, dance and shadow theater, even though she tried to just stay indoors and practice her viola and violin (new music, chamber music, and Irish fiddle music). But she eventually succumbed to the Bay area Balinese arts ensemble, Gamelan Sekar Jaya, which has been her performing focus for the past twenty years, including over three years study in Bali. She is also a musician and project manager with SF’s ShadowLight Productions, with whom she has performed contemporary and traditional shadow theater at venues including the Spoleto Festival in South Carolina, UCLA’s Royce Hall, and the Henson Int’l Puppet Theater Festival in New York. For the past thirteen years she has been proud to teach and play music in mainly Oakland, some Berkeley, and other east bay schools with both children and teachers.
