Erik is a multi-instrumentalist who studied Music Composition and Cultural Anthropology at Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music. While at Oberlin he discovered old time music and fell in love with the banjo/fiddle music of the southern Appalachians. Since moving to California in ’90 he’s played in many bands ranging from the electric free improv band Mushroom, to old time mavericks The Crooked Jades. He performs frequently as a trio with Caz regulars Keith Terry and Evie Ladin, and has provided a live soundtrack to Diane Ferlatte’s storytelling for over a decade. Erik has also scored a few movies, many dance performances, and written chamber music for a variety of contemporary ensembles. He regularly teaches guitar and banjo at San Francisco’s Community Music Center.
